Donna Camilla Savelli - VRetreats

Designed by Baroque architect Borromini, the Donna Camilla Savelli is a former monastery in Rome's popular Trastevere area. It offers a garden, elegant and sober rooms, and free WiFi throughout. The property dates back to the 17th-century, and features exposed wooden beams on the ceilings and precious stuccoes. Rooms are air-conditioned and offer an LCD TV with satellite channels. The terrace at the Camilla Savelli offers views of the Eternal City. The inner garden is complete with patio. Breakfast is a varied buffet including sweet and savoury items, and vegan products. During summer, it is served in the garden. The surroundings of this 4-star hotel include historic buildings, traditional Roman squares, and cobblestone-covered streets. The famous square outside the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere is a 5-minute walk away. The Vatican is a 10-minute walk along the banks of River Tiber. The historical centre of Rome is just across Sisto Bridge.

Pros: Lovely accommodation with attentive staff. The location is also good with loads of places to get good food within a few minutes walk, and not right next to the busiest tourist hubs but easy to access them. Varied breakfast buffet options of good quality. Staff happy to show us to the cave on-site and explain the history of the building which has some roman elements.

Cons: The pillows were a bit hard, maybe having 1 of the 2 provided a different firmness would be nice... but I am being picky The shower configuration meant it was impossible not to soak the bathroom when we used it.

Tranquil and restorative rooms in a super location.

Pros: Beautifully calm, well presented and relaxing accommodation but just a short walk from the heart of Trastevere

Cons: Breakfast was a little lacking in flavour; breads felt a bit sad and the extra paid for menu items, such as omelettes and waffles might be expected as part of the offer in similar hotels. A minor point but at 300 per night, worth mentioning that the Bathroom was spotlessly clean but the shower partition a bit narrow so the bathroom floor ended up getting soaked every time!

Beautiful building in great location, superb friendly staff.

Pros: It’s an incredibly beautiful old convent conversion, the building has so many interesting facets, space is used imaginatively etc. Location is excellent.

Cons: Nothing - in the summer a pool etc would be great but that’s being picky.

Very special quiet place in Trastevere

Pros: Quiet location, but close to all restaurants; spacious room; overall atmosphere of the ancient building.

Cons: 30€ charge for a small dog. Many hotels promote free of charge stay for the pets.

Beautiful!

Pros: Amazing location, staff, and cleanliness, and it’s just so beautiful!

Cons: It’s a bit on the expensive side, but we’ve stayed twice now, so obviously we love it overall! The staff from front desk to cleaners to porters are all wonderful.

Delightful Historic Convent

Pros: An old convent on the edge of Trasteverse. Rooms are newly done up and nicely designed. Generally comfortable - a nice place to be in a historic setting. Staff are absolutely delightful - helpful, considerate, charming and funny. Great location for popping into Trastevere without actually being in the middle of it. Best of both worlds - quiet spacious environment for living in yet round the corner from the buzzing hub. The breakfast is missing my particular staples (salmon, parma, hard cheese, avocado) however this is a great excuse to buy bits and bobs down the markets. Mercato Trionfale next to Vatican is good and also a great place for lunch.

Pros: Beautiful hotel , excellent location . Service was great

Cons: The executive room where I stayed wasn’t value for money . Very small for a double and overlooking back of the hotel kind of enclosed space . I was surprised things like the complimentary water wast topped up for a 4 day stay , one bottle first day , and that’s it . Same with toiletries .

Great location

Pros: Location is absolutely perfect. Lovely hotel with a nice restaurant.

Cons: At the check out we were presented with the final bill significantly higher than expected due to automatically included tips for stuff. I’ve been traveling to Italy for years and there was never a situation like this… the receptionist told us that the tips were optional but I still found it odd
